It’s the time of year where we all make an appointment to get our annual influenza vaccination. The flu can cause serious illness and can infect people at any age. The best way to protect yourself and others from the flu is by getting your annual flu shot – for both adults and kids.
The flu vaccination is safe and has been around for many years and helps protect you from getting seriously ill if you do contract the flu. Those who get vaccinated are less likely to need hospitalization from the flu.
In recent years, flu season was more mild because we were all taking many precautions due to COVID-19 such as wearing masks, social distancing and staying home. But with most of these precautions now being dropped, and both COVID and the flu circulating, we are anticipating a busier flu season this year.
When should you get a flu shot?
Experts recommend the best time to get a flu shot is late September or October. The flu usually starts to decline by spring so it’s important to get it now to protect you throughout the colder months.
